This actually isn't true but I've seen it before. They were first described by Carl Linnaeus, in his 18th century Systema Naturae (aka where we get binomial nomenclature from.) He gave them the scientific name Branta canadensis, meaning a goose that is black (burnt) and from Canada.

He was testing the waters, I think he doesnāt know what he is going to say until he reads the room. He didnāt get a good reaction until he mentions the geese, so he doubles down and keeps talking about geese and gets more of a rise from the crowd, so kicks it up to taking the pets. I think part of it is the crowd is very aware of all the shit he got for talking about eating cats and dogs, so when he doubles down they vocally show that he has their support and that they back what he has to say. Itās like a bad feedback loop.

Itās true but they arenāt illegal, the US govt gave them temporary 18 months status to stay and work in the US after the earthquake and subsequent collapse of Haiti into open gang warfare and assassination of the president with no replacement.
The govt did not however direct them all to come to this one town. They were recommended/recruited there by a temp work agency because the town has a lot of job openings and cheap housing/CoL. They are diligent workers and crime has not increased since they arrived. Mainly the issue the town has is a lot of them donāt know how to drive properly, with one getting into an accident with a school bus that killed an 11 year old (it was not a murder like Trump and MAGA tried to say it was).
On YouTube you can easily find a PBS NewsHour report on the town interviewing local business leaders, local govt officials and the Haitian immigrants.

This is not entirely true. Crime has increased in the area, to be fair. They donāt collect citizen status data in those statistics, so itās not necessarily the Haitian immigrants. The entire town is under substantial strain, primarily in healthcare and education.
It should be noted though that on average across the United States, immigrants typically commit fewer crimes than citizens.
All this cat and Goose stuff is pure xenophobia to me.

I hate when people act like MAGA makes up anywhere close to half of the population, because they don't. Last year about 2/3rds of the population of eligible voters showed up to the polls, which is unusually high, and less than half of them voted for Trump. So even if we're being as generous as possible it's somewhere between 1/4th and 1/3rd of Americans are Trump supporters.
Let me just say this, there's a reason why the electoral college exists, and without it Republicans would never win another election unless they radically change what their party stands for and actually make an attempt to represent the will of the people.

What people donāt realize is he is causing panic. Before this received national attention, there were just rumors going around town with the racists. But now that itās come out of trumps mouth, and is in national headlines, even people that I would never expect are spreading the lies. People have called the police on missing geese, and they were told thereās nothing the police could do. Ever since itās spread to pets or even children. There IS a lot ofā¦.maybe contempt? Residents feel like this city is being taken over. At least half of our population now are Haitian immigrants. But first hand, I have never seen them doing anything wrong. Except the driving. Thatās gotten pretty serious. Most do not speak English and canāt read English so driving has been a bit of a mess. But I live directly across the street from a home that houses roughly 15 Haitians, Iāve never had an issue. The stray cat population has not changed, thereās not a crime uptick, they mostly keep to themselves. What IS happening is for the lower income people, the influx of refugees, not immigrants, are getting passed over on low income resources like soup kitchens, food pantries, etc. this city just does not have enough resources for this many needy families. And the people born and raised are feeling abandoned. Which in turn is causing them to be angry at the new population.
The reason I say Trump is causing panic, is because just today there were bomb threats made to the city hall, to other offices, and even to some elementary schools where there is a large Haitian presence. Our whole city was shut down today because of people making bomb threats. I have a 2nd grade child and it was terrifying. Now Iām not allowing him to go to school tomorrow. It has gotten very scary. And I canāt imagine how the Haitians here feel after this. Cannot imagine!

Haitians are being harassed and are already talking about having to leave Springfield so his lies are having their desired result for MAGA. Don't downplay this, when this works to drive immigrants out of a town in fear Trump and MAGA won't stop there. Trans, gay, POC, democrats - anyone they don't like (I.e. everyone) will be in their crosshairs. It is impossible to understate how much power these words have coming from the mouth of a former and potentially returning president even when it's Trump.

This making me realize I am out of the loop. When and why did Hatians become the new conservative racist boogie man? It was central america illegal immgriants for a while. Then, we got the Venezuelan gang taking over some slumlords condemned buildings which doesn't seem to have got a lot of traction. Now Hatians ate the latest boogie man. Any particular reason or just throwing darts to see if something will get traction and move the election needle.

City hall in Springfield was evacuated this morning because someone identifying themselves as a resident called in a bomb threat because they were upset by all the immigrants.
This piece of shit is going to get someone killed.
Meanwhile, he said ā20,000 illegal Haitian immigrants have descended onā¦.ā Theyāre not illegal. Theyāre LEGAL migrants. I know that MAGA potatoes donāt know the difference, or care, especially when the people are brown, but it does matter.
And they didnāt ādescend.ā They were fucking invited. They were actively recruited by many of the local companies because despite what Trump said about how Springfield was a wonderful community before, it was not.
It was a place that, like many towns across the Midwest, had lost a lot of manufacturing jobs and had turned into a opioid/meth addicted hellscape. The local companies needed people that could actually count on to work.
And if you listen to the business owners now, they have nothing but great things to say about their strong work ethic.
Meanwhile, if you look at the crime stats, the Haitian community is significantly more likely to be the victims of crime that the perpetrators.
Because of all the jobs that have come into town, the economy there is doing great.
Now, has the influx of 20,000 new people put a strain on local city services? Absolutely. Of course, this has nothing to do with them being migrants. It would be the same if 20,000 Sullys suddenly showed up from Boston.
That doesnāt mean itās not a real issue that affects folks there though and it needs to be addressed. Hopefully thatās something that can be addressed by local and state leaders moving forward.
Addressing it successfully though is going to be MUCH harder, if not impossible though when a major candidate for President is running around not only demonizing the Haitian community, but outright lying about them.

The Haitian immigrants in Springfield are not in any way illegal. Haiti is designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) through 2026. The immigrants in question are in the U.S. legally under TPS.
The killing ducks claim is based on a video clip of one single person claiming that Haitian immigrants are killing ducks in parks. That's it. He doesn't even say that this is something that he has witnessed. He claims without any evidence whatsoever that this is happening.
This video clip was dug up by MAGA cultists only *after it became clear that Trump's statement about cats and dogs being kept as pets was completely bogus. That claim was, in turn, based on a video of a woman purporting to be eating a cat. The only problem is that the video in question turned out to be from an entirely different city, Canton, and that Canton police verified that she was a native-born U.S. citizen with no connection whatsoever to Haiti or any other foreign country.
Very simply put, this is racist fearmongering with no basis in reality that is intended to rile up Trump's base of MAGA cultist. I have bad news for MAGA: It's transparent, it's infantile, and all it will accomplish is to ensure that Trump will lose yet another election.
