Even if any of this is true...his running mate is a fucking SENATOR of OHIO. How does this do anything but look bad for HIM?

It's not even true. There was a picture of a black guy moving a dead goose off of a road in Columbus (not Springfield). And that guy wasn't even Haitian.

He's using that one picture as a basis for these lies. Because it's easier to double down on lies than admit he was wrong.

Edited to add sources*

Source 1:

Columbus man regrets taking goose photo he says is being weaponized against immigrants

Google Maps locatio:

[Maps link removed because shortened links violate subreddit rules.] You can find it by googling "dead goose story reddit" and searching the comments of the first result.

Source #2:

https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/columbus/strange-columbus-photos-connection-to-claims-about-haitians-in-springfield/

the photographer behind the now-viral goose photo, whom NBC4 has kept anonymous for his safety, uploaded his photo July 28 to Reddit. A timestamp on the post shows it went live months before the Springfield controversy.

“I was just driving down the street Sunday morning, saw a guy walking down the street with a goose, thought it was kind of crazy, you know, not something you see every day,” the photographer said. “I was gonna talk to him. He did not speak English as much as I can tell. He was not Haitian, I’ve heard Haitian people before.”

Note* Someone mentioned none of these articles show the picture. I'm not going to link it here because of the way it's being used to spread lies, but if you want more context you can find the picture in 2 seconds on Google.

And the video of the woman with the cat she killed wasn’t even Haitian, nor an immigrant, nor was it even in Springfield. It was 180 miles way in a different town, and it was a US citizen with mental illness.

And the one video of the guy saying the immigrants are killing ducks in the park doesn’t have proof.

So
a random guy from a town hall meeting, a woman who’s actually a US citizen with mental illness and an obscure video of a dead goose has somehow snowballed into some mass hysteria that Haitians are killing and eating Springfield, Ohio residents’ pets.

And then an ex president says it on national TV during a debate.

229

u/blergmonkeys 6d ago

Why are we even talking about this? This is insane

153

u/654456 6d ago

Because a former president, future hopeful is saying it in a national debate. :(

64

u/blergmonkeys 6d ago

Yeah, that's the point... this is actually insane... completely ridiculous and stupid af. How has it come to this!?

51

u/arrivederci117 6d ago

If you and everyone else doesn't vote, then he's going to be the president.

20

u/PM_ME_UR_WUT 6d ago

Because Democrats had the gall, the audacity, the fucking nerve to elect a black man as president.

18

u/OuOutstanding 6d ago

Obama turned out pretty good as far as American Presidents go. If Harris wins, and does a good job, I think we need to have a serious and uncomfortable conversation. I know it won’t be popular but I’m just going to rip that bandaid off

Only black presidents going forward. At least until we get a bad one. Am I being crazy here, I mean 2/2, let it ride.

4

u/654456 5d ago

Probably just need to start at younger ones.

9

u/deviousmajik 6d ago

That this election is even close is pretty insane too.

5

u/Bored_Amalgamation 6d ago

It's been like this. He's been targeting people this whole time.

2

u/654456 5d ago

Its been his MO, greenlight racism and fear monger old racist white people that actually vote.

2

u/Bored_Amalgamation 5d ago

And because he hasn't dropped the n-word in public, somehow he isn't a bigot himself.

2

u/654456 5d ago

Insert george carlin bit about average intelligence.

47

u/weakplay 6d ago

It’s easier than talking about nonexistent concepts about policies - also stoke some boomer racist fear votes. It’s all they got.

6

u/osiriss7887 6d ago

This! This is the thought that I can’t get out of my brain. Republicans who would have you believe democrats are burning the country down and destroying the economy are spending their time discussing cats and geese.

4

u/XLVwisco 6d ago

The trump campaign won in 2016 leaning into memes. They are trying to do the same but not realizing how terminally online/ 4chan posting they’ve leaned into it.

3

u/IAmPandaRock 6d ago

Thank you! Even if there was an illegal or legal immigrant or two that ate someone's cat or a wild goose... that's one of the things you're running on to become president of the United States? I've never heard of another candidate run on anything like "there was a guy who poisoned his neighbor's dog to death -- vote for me!" Trump's just looney.

2

u/Sad_Confection5902 6d ago

Trump is insane, and because he is a cult leader, his followers have to themselves become insane to continue to support him.

You are watching a group of people willingly debase themselves on a mass scale.

1

u/hockey_psychedelic 6d ago

Schadenfreude

1

u/DownTrunk 6d ago

Racism.

1

u/indianajoes 6d ago

Because half the population is insane and followed this crazy Facebook grandpa

1

u/nunchyabeeswax 5d ago

For demagogues, it pays to convince the yokels to punch down on some other, more disadvantageous group.

Punching down has become a feature in American (conservative) politics.

1

u/string-ornothing 5d ago edited 5d ago

I was just thinking about this today. I'm from an area very famous for addicts and it used to be, you saw a lady doing something absolutely insane like eating a cat, you just said "that's insane crackhead behavior" and maybe called the police for a welfare check if it was real bad. I never thought anything an addict was seen doing on the street would be worth talking about in a debate tbh let alone using in a claim against immigrants from a totally different country

22

u/MockStarket 6d ago

Well it was on TV... So vis a vis, heirgo, ipso facto, it's true.

5

u/KhausTO 6d ago

Kinda sounds like the "Indians are shitting on our beaches" bullshit we had in Canada a few weeks back

3

u/walkinman19 6d ago

Only in America! May God have mercy on us all!

2

u/Thecatnamedgary 6d ago

“They takin da geese”

2

u/DrOrozco 6d ago

He confused a dark skin group, immediately thought of the closest ethnic group and said, "Haitians".
Let's be honest, he wanted to say "blacks"....but he couldn't. So he picked the closest "ethnic" group of unimportance to his base.

2

u/fibrous 6d ago

and the 20k Haitian immigrants are DOCUMENTED and brought there for manufacturing jobs to help revitalize the community. The only problems are about their infrastructure being unable to handle a sudden influx of people.

1

u/MrBurnz99 5d ago

Not doubting the other things are true but how does bringing in 20k immigrants revitalize the community? Seems like it helps the immigrants much more than the community, they require housing, schools, and other resources and puts a strain on everything.

1

u/Better-Train6953 5d ago

It helps if your town is losing people. I can't speak on Springfield Ohio but there are other towns in the state that are suffering from brain drain.

2

u/ConfidenceMan2 6d ago

I know an old guy in his 70s now who actually did kill ducks in a New Orleans park for food while he was in medical school at Tulane. He’s a Trump supporter now and i wonder how he feels.

2

u/z_o_o_m 6d ago

anyone who has been to a town hall or two knows that you get some total crazies in the public comment sections

Cleveland has some insane stories, where catching a goose and eating it is light work

1

u/SilverStryfe 6d ago

This
 former President.

I think we should all use Kamala Harris’s words from now on.

1

u/CaptainBirdEnjoyer 6d ago

You know it's 2024 when we're just brushing by the fact that a woman literally did eat a cat in Ohio in a completely separate event.

1

u/PussyPussylicclicc 5d ago

this remind me Greenday's Song American Idiot.

1

u/wonkey_monkey 5d ago

So
a random guy from a town hall meeting

I read another comment that said he was neo-Nazi-affiliated

46

u/btribble 6d ago

Anyone who has worked for a parks department for any length of time will tell you that this does happen, and it doesn’t require Haitians or any other foreign nationality. There are plenty of white meth and fentanyl heads out there doing all kinds of strange shit. Eating a duck from the lake in the park barely registers on the strange shit-o-meter.

5

u/Ruzhy6 6d ago

Just because something has happened does not mean that it is happening.

12

u/btribble 6d ago

This is one of those things that's not verifiable, but I bet it happens an average of more than once a week in the US. You hunt ducks with a shotgun, what's so strange about grabbing one around the neck with your hands? No, really. If you go to Safeway and buy a raw chicken, is there any significant moral difference?

4

u/Ruzhy6 6d ago

I'd buy once a week. The USA is huge.

2

u/popeyepaul 5d ago

I genuinely do not understand why anyone thinks that he killed the goose and was going to eat it just because they saw a picture of him carrying it. He may have just seen a dead goose on the road and decided to toss it away from bothering people.

1

u/mycatsnameislarry 6d ago

What does register on the strange shit-o-meter?

2

u/btribble 6d ago

There are plenty of videos right here on Reddit if you want to go looking...

1

u/busterbusterbuster 5d ago

This is spot on. Bath salts are crazy.

208

u/Grateful-Jed 6d ago

He also saw it on TV.

114

u/terra_cascadia 6d ago

He “saw it on THE TELEVISION.”

5

u/soulagainstsoul 6d ago

THEY’RE EATING THE DOGS

1

u/TheDarthSnarf 5d ago

It's true, they even have a food cart in Springfield that is openly selling dogs!

3

u/indianajoes 6d ago

If Trump hadn't chased away any competent people from his campaign, they would've been smacking their foreheads so hard when they heard that shit

5

u/c_alas 6d ago

That comment was glossed over, because of the crazy shit he constantly says, but it's a concerning one. He's saying he believes anything on TV... and we know what channel he watches.

2

u/dyals_style 6d ago

Hannity said it so it must be true /s

2

u/Anastariana 6d ago

I wonder if he realises that there are fictional dramas on TV or if every show is a documentary.

4

u/Wyden_long 6d ago

By the same media that “lies” to you.

1

u/Zavender 6d ago

He probably caught an Alf rerun one night.

121

u/dinkmoyd 6d ago

that picture is also like 6 years old

102

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 6d ago

Yeah, it's one of the most ridiculous fake stories I've ever seen during an election.

11

u/crabwhisperer 6d ago

If this is the September surprise I can't even imagine what's coming in October. I just keep thinking to myself - Trump's base is already brainwashed, his job now is to convince swing voters and new voters. And this is the plan??

6

u/chopkins92 6d ago

It's hilarious that so much airtime and discourse has been dedicated to this loony tune conspiracy theory.

6

u/rW0HgFyxoJhYka 6d ago

It won't be over even if Trump loses.

GOP isn't going back. Russia won't back down as long as Putin's entire existence lies on the back of manipulating media around the world.

43

u/wetroom 6d ago

This was happening during Trump's America?? And he didn't stop it then? Why does anyone think he'll stop it now?

17

u/Osiris0900 6d ago

Make Geese Great Again

1

u/EasyFooted 6d ago

(by all accounts he was removing roadkill. Like, in a good way, not a lunch way. For stories like that, see RFK Jr)

2

u/wetroom 6d ago

It starts innocent enough, taking the roadkill off the streets. Everyone looks the other way. Then next thing you know they're taking whole chunks of American asphalt back to Haiti. We gotta stop this folks!

6

u/CatastropheCat 6d ago

No it’s not it’s from like 2 months ago

2

u/katmc68 6d ago

The guy took the pic July 28. He's pissed about how it's being used by the GQP.

Goose pic dude

17

u/YouWereBrained 6d ago

Exactly. And his supporters are so beholden to his bullshit that they won’t do any independent verification.

7

u/lmacarrot 6d ago

he's getting it from fox who's getting it from right wing blogs and podcasts lol. it's the litter boxes in classrooms all over again, but dumber

4

u/654456 6d ago

Who are being we now known to being paid by a russian backed media company to spew bullshit

2

u/ussrowe 6d ago

2,800 influencers. That can certainly spread rumors around the world. Not to mention useful idiots like "Leon" Musk

3

u/noble_peace_prize 6d ago

I just don’t know how a goose in Ohio would be on the radar of a potential POTUS. Dude doesn’t even have a concept of a healthcare bill but is so concerned about a fake goose story.

Republicans are so sincerely stupid, and so are undecided voters.

3

u/AngriestPacifist 6d ago

And think what's actually being said by this lie - it's that black people can NEVER be real Americans, they'll always be an "other". Doesn't matter how many generations they've been here, what they've accomplished, or what they've suffered - they'll always be second class citizens to Republicans.

3

u/ForensicPathology 6d ago

The guy shouldn't feel bad.  They will literally take any picture they can find and fake the context to match a story they want propagandize.

2

u/marsmedia 6d ago

it's easier to double down on lies than admit he was wrong

See: The Four Seasons Press Conference

3

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 6d ago

Yup, it's a common theme. Lie, lie and lie some more.

2

u/rock082082 6d ago

These people are not illegal immigrants either. They are refugees that have been relocated to the city. So this is just pure evil to put a target on people like this

5

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 6d ago

It's racism, plain and simple. They just changed it to a different group because hating Latinos isn't a good strategy anymore.

2

u/Malaix 6d ago

The person who ate a cat was also a random black American woman having like a mental breakdown and just randomly started biting a cat.

They are just roaming around looking for footage of black people who are having a weird one or existing in some cases and making up stories and declaring it a Haitian immigrant problem.

Just hit me this is their next target now that the transpanic is dying down a bit. Jesus christ they are predictable. its just moral panics and scapegoating minorities all the way down.

2

u/1800generalkenobi 5d ago

I had a squirrel die in my driveway and I threw it back into the woods with a shovel the other day. Glad no one took a picture of me doing that.

2

u/koshgeo 5d ago

You know what's even more ridiculous?

You've got a guy who mysteriously got "brain worms" somehow, who publicly says he picks up road kill too, and sometimes throws it into Central Park as a "joke" .... who is a presidential candidate on the ballot in some states. Like, holy F this campaign is wild.

And the other guy promoting the "immigrants are eating your cats and dogs (and geese)" insanity? Is he worried about the mental stability of brain worm/road kill guy? Nope. Doesn't bat an eye. Signs him up to get an endorsement and be part of the administration.

I never thought it would be possible, but he's showing there's a double standard for a white guy versus a dark-skinned immigrant when handling road kill.

1

u/lentilSoup78 6d ago

And his strategists know his constituents are stupid enough to believe it if he repeats it enough

1

u/OtisPan 6d ago

Because it's easier to double down on lies than admit he was wrong.

Brandolini's Law strikes again.

1

u/Drcornelius1983 6d ago

It’s not crazy, you can use the molten goose grease and save it in the refrigerator, thus saving you a trip to the store for a can of expensive goose grease.

1

u/Mike_with_Wings 6d ago

It’s important to remember that they’re the lunatics on the defensive here and we don’t need to explain ourselves. We’re allowed to just laugh.

1

u/Maria-Stryker 6d ago

And the cat story is false too. They took a video of a random woman who did try to eat a cat, but lied about her motivation and nationality and the city it happened in. She was having a psychotic break and was an American citizen and not of Haitian descent

1

u/Iboven 6d ago

Why do neither of these news articles actually have the photo in them?

1

u/ClamClone 5d ago

So even if true that would be a matter for the game warden to see if waterfowl were being poached. Not the same thing as eating peoples pets. I have in the past advocated for the homeless to eat the ducks and geese that do not migrate and hang around parks and make a mess. The Muscovy ducks are the worst it seems.

I have found that when cooking duck or geese the Beijing method of boiling them first and drying them overnight results if a much better crispy skin. I tried the French style canard Ă  l'orange and found it too fatty. Going all the way with the pancakes, scallions, and sauce is the best.

0

u/CthulhuLies 6d ago

He is talking about a different incident. https://thefederalist.com/2024/09/10/exclusive-police-audio-report-confirm-haitian-goose-hunting-in-ohio-they-all-had-geese-in-their-hands/

I don't know if it's true, I don't think a single reporting means we can grossly imply it's "happening" but this is what he is talking about.

5

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 6d ago

Take one look at the front page of that website and the articles on there. It makes Fox News look tame.

Besides that, one phone call from a random guy means nothing when the city has said there's been no credible report of that happening.

5

u/nbzf 6d ago

https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/county-no-evidence-of-august-claim-that-haitians-took-geese-at-springfield-park/NFRGJNURHREGHB32HBC6UKZJWQ/

County: No evidence of August claim that Haitians took geese at Springfield park

Clark County officials say that was only call to the dispatch center on this subject in 11 months; add that law enforcement and ODNR found no evidence

Flax Wilt said Wednesday morning that false claims lead to a waste of resources, and the Aug. 26 call led an officer to be dispatched on a “literal wild goose chase.”

-1

u/CthulhuLies 6d ago

Yeah the publication is biased, yeah it's not good evidence.

This is what he is talking about though.

0

u/Aceofspades25 5d ago

There is a police case report and an audio report going around of 2 men and 2 women seen carrying geese near a city park. They are suspected of being Haitian because the witness who reported them told the police it sounded like they were speaking Haitian creole. It was dated 26 August.

https://www.scribd.com/embeds/767911174/content?start_page=1&view_mode=scroll&access_key=key-FgAt6C3w3O2whVVHFZHL

The cats and dogs thing is absolutely a lie though.

2

u/Sensitive_Dirt1957 5d ago

0

u/Aceofspades25 5d ago

Yes, it is. But it looks like this police report was made towards the end of August. Was that before claims of this nature started circulating?

I guess it's possible for somebody to have planned for this to become a piece of election drama before the claims went viral.

I wouldn't put it past someone like James O'Keefe

3

u/Sensitive_Dirt1957 5d ago

Thats a fair point. Also im not saying its 100% untrue, from the details of the story it looks like the police didnt really look into it and just referred it to the Dept of Natural Resources. Its just that a single police call isnt really enough evidence for a presidential candidate to make such an outrageous claim

0

u/ToughHardware 5d ago

it is being scrubbed from search engines. hence why you are getting flack for not posting sources

1

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 5d ago

I posted 2 sources + the map location is from the original source and takes 2 seconds to look up.

-1

u/TheJWeed 6d ago

This is the information I couldn’t find if it’s true. You wouldn’t happen to have a source for it would you?

6

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 6d ago edited 6d ago

Columbus man regrets taking goose photo he says is being weaponized against immigrants

And the maps location:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/niwcki7w2aFVFukAA

Another source:

Riiight. Because all calls to the police are 100% legit and not a fabrication at all.

8

u/VioletItoe 6d ago

You got links for this baseless claim?

There have been police reports that Jesus is alive in Montana too.

-11

u/xdarkwombatx 6d ago

9

u/VioletItoe 6d ago

Oh Twitter, so reliable! It's not like you can just post whatever you want there. I'm glad you linked such a reputable source.

-10

u/xdarkwombatx 6d ago

What else do you want? You can say that about anything.
So I show you evidence and of course its made up.
So the police dispatch audio is made up and recorded by people making up a conspiracy?

12

u/VioletItoe 6d ago

I mean my original point was that you can just say whatever the fuck you want on the internet. If you're going to claim something is fact, you should back it up instead of just echoing it out into the aether. And then linking me to a website that is entirely unmoderated doesn't exactly set me up to feel like you are talking about real things. Had you posted the actual police reports I honestly would not have said anything.

5

u/Capinpickles 6d ago

Yeah, it's made the hell up. Police dispatchers wouldn't say "armed Venezuelans" they would say "armed assailants," "armed men," "armed individuals," because cops are literally room temperature IQ and could never tell the difference.

2

u/haceldama13 6d ago

You understand that social media does not constitute a reputable source, right?

4

u/ShowUsYaGrowler 6d ago

Its important not to totally dismiss the claim.

There probably is somebody who ate some geese. Its not that unusual. Some filipino dude Got prosecuted for eating a bin chicken this year

We should be mocking trump for repeatedly saying it on television in a stupid fucking manner based on total hearsay. Because thats his threshold for something being true.

Theyre gonna find evidence of some randok haitian eating a goose then claim ‘trump was right all along’.

-6

u/xdarkwombatx 6d ago

4

u/ShowUsYaGrowler 6d ago

Lets be clear; random public reports dont mean shit. And I say that as somebody who used to take thebpublic reports. But where theres smoke, yeh, theres probably fire.

Lets all be clear, people were mocking him primarily on the cats and dogs. Theyve seen the bogus video he was no doubt basing his claim off. But hey - there could be somebody doing that too.

Doesnt mean its happening all over, and doesnt mean trump jumping rhe gun repeatedly on tv was the right call with the info at hand. Dudes an idiot, like any fucking youtube simpleton who believes conspiracy bullshit. Donny will believe anything he sees a video of on truth social.
