But Trump's spawn getting 2 BILLION dollars from the Saudis should never be mentioned...

People sometimes think a billion is kinda like a big million.

They forget that the POOREST billionaire could spend a million dollars a day for nearly 3 years. The richest billionaires could spend a million dollars a day for over FIVE HUNDRED YEARS!

The example I like to use to show the difference between a million and billion is 1 million seconds = about 12 days 1 billion seconds = about 32 years

humans are just not built to understand geometric progression.

10 berry = unga

100 berry = bunga

That makes too much sense. Not enough 8’s, 12’s, or 5280’s. Not even a single unit defined by a king’s body part.

And yet we're here understanding it just fine

You know the difference between a million dollars, and a billion dollars?

About a billion dollars.

give or take a million

A million dollars is basically a rounding error at that point

The average U.S. male lives for 2.4 billion seconds

Or some examples using distance. If we say $1 buys one foot of travel.

  • One dollar lets you perform a single shuffle-step.
  • One thousand dollars will get you one complete circuit of a typical Walmart Supercenter.
  • One million dollars will get you from Boston to New York City
  • One billion dollars will get you to Lunar Orbit (although not quite to the moon's surface).
  • One trillion dollars will get you to the Sun and back

In that case, $1.26 billion would get you to the Sun, which puts it even more into perspective imo.

If you start with a billion dollars and light a million on fire, you still have 99.9% of your money.

Yeah I use that analogy as well, I also like to use this one “The difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is almost a billion”.

Ooh I gotta remember that one.

If I had a billion dollars and a time machine, I could go back to 0AD and burn $1,000 every single day until current day, and I'd still have over $250,000,000

Edit: fixed math per below comment

$1,000, not $10,000. Still an insane idea that I can barely comprehend.
