Imagine only voting because a celebrity told you to.

That’s funny because nowhere in Taylor’s statement did she tell people to go and vote for Kamala, she said to do proper research and vote accordingly.

That's funny because nowhere in the post you replied to was any candidate mentioned.

Taylor Swift is literally the topic of this post.

u/bearded_fisch_stix 5d ago

edit, sorry, wrong thread.
that said, is taylor a candidate? no?

Your point…?

Imagine more people voting, and in the process learning why it's so important to vote, and thus becoming lifelong voters.

2

u/hill-o 5d ago

No see it’s not ok because a famous lady said voting is important. Famous lady bad— better young people not hear about voting at all.

u/nnyzim 5d ago

Shhhh. They don't want that. Voting belongs to old rich landowners with passive income.

u/wannabe_pixie 6d ago

Better than not voting because the Russians bribed your influencer to tell you that both parties are the same.

imagine caring where the votes come from if it wins harris the presidency

u/RobValleyheart 6d ago

Imagine voting for a reality TV star.

One doesn’t make the other any more acceptable tbh

How the fuck is voting because an artist you like is saying that it is important, bad?
How is it any different that being told the same thing by your parents... or a friend of yours?
Why are some of you so anti-voting?

u/hill-o 5d ago

They’re not anti-voting, they’re anti Taylor Swift to the point that they would rather people not vote, lol. All of this feels very much like if another celebrity has said the same thing it wouldn’t be as big a deal to them and I think we know why.

Nice of you to assume but no. Indeed i’m not a fan of Taylor Swift, but the worshipping of any person, politician or celebrity, is strange. That exact rhetoric is how a bunch of loonies ended up storming the capitol a couple years ago.

Vote, but vote because you’ve done your research & reached a conclusion on your own, not because a billionaire celebrity who you put on a pedestal told you to.

1

u/hill-o 5d ago

But if someone with a huge platform says something… I would rather it be “hey register to vote” instead of a lot of the other insanity celebrities say.

Also I can tell you’re not a fan, haha, which is fine.

u/DiKapino 5d ago

Well yeah, “go out & vote” is one thing , because it’s encouraging people to do the right thing whilst also keeping it open ended enough for individuals to make their own decisions

However Taylor literally said “I’m voting for Kamala Harris”. Celebrities like Swift need to understand publicly taking a position on something when you knowingly have millions of impressionable fans who will likely follow suit has consequences. She’s leveraged her fanbase to manipulate charts & ‘cancel’ people online before.

This isn’t any different, it’s manipulating uninformed people to make an uninformed decision & I believe that’s dangerous. It’s not only Taylor Swift, many celebrities with large followings are guilty of doing so.

I’m not a fan of either candidate quite frankly, but I reached that decision through watching the news & reading articles, not because my favorite celebrity told me what to think.

But that’s almost exactly what Taylor Swift’s message said, if you read it. She didn’t explicitly tell anyone to vote for Kamala, she explained why she was going to vote for Harris and then said that people should do their own research and should make sure to register to vote.

Well for one, you have a genuine connection with your family & your friends. Generally, they know you well enough to look out for your best interests. To an extent, their opinion should hold weight.

A relationship with a celebrity is parasocial. If you need the opinion of a celebrity who doesn’t care about you & doesn’t know you exist to make a major decision, then there’s something seriously wrong with that.

Nowhere does my comment indicate that i’m anti-voting. Rather, i’m anti celebrity worship. It sets a bad precedent going forward. “Oh well my favorite celebrity said x, so that’s what i’m gonna do!” In an age where influencers rule the world & AI has all the answers, the ability to analyze material & reach a conclusion on your own is more important than ever.

One's definitely worse than the other. Either way, it's always fair to point out hypocrisy.

No.

This Country has always been politically divided. Only children and people ignorant to history say otherwise, because they don't know any better.

Rules for me not for thee mentality

-21

u/RobValleyheart 6d ago

I’m pretty sure the second is ten times worse than the first. But, you do you, Boo.

6

u/DiKapino 6d ago

I think both are pretty bad, but if you wanna rank them go for it, boo

u/Laser-circus 6d ago

One just has bad songs and the other one? You wouldn't leave your pretty little daughter alone in a room with because he bragged about sexual assault.

Are you going to mock Ukrainians for voting for a movie star? What about Californians for voting for a movie star?

If not, then why?

3

u/Averill21 6d ago

I will

6

u/expenseoutlandish 6d ago edited 5d ago

Californians deserve to be mocked for voting for Arnold Schwarzenegger and B-list actor Ronald Reagan.

1

u/likely_Protei_8327 5d ago

Ronald Reagan dude... smh

1

u/expenseoutlandish 5d ago

Almost every state voted for Reagan. Why specify California in that case?

1

u/likely_Protei_8327 5d ago

because he was the governor of California and a movie star...

1

u/expenseoutlandish 5d ago

I wasn't aware that he was governor of California. Those same things apply to Arnold Schwarzenegger. They were both governor for 8 years. But Arnold was an actual star while Reagan was a B list actor.

1

u/likely_Protei_8327 1d ago

Reagan was actually a president

1

u/expenseoutlandish 1d ago

There is no reason to specify California if you are talking about Reagan being voted president. California didn't vote him in by themselves.

-1

u/Asleep_Shirt5646 6d ago

I don't live in either place but I mock Californians daily and refuse to mock people fighting a defensive war.

Stunning and brave

Imagine being positively influenced by your idols. Or being inspired by someone who reflects the things you think and feel. What a crazy concept!

2

u/nnyzim 5d ago

Imagine voting because a teacher told you to. Imagine voting because your parents told you to. Imagine voting because X told you to? What's your point?? That people shouldn't get informed about the voting process from anyone?

4

u/Vattrakk 6d ago

Imagine whining that people might be voting for the first time because someone they like told them to.
