Others have answered too, but in Japan sushi means rice flavoured with vinegar. It can be served loose in bowls, or as nigiri, futomaki etc, which are the different styles of sushi roll or block that we know outside of Japan.
See I can't do anything with the cold sticky rice. It's weird I know but I've never been able to do cold rice. So I can do things that don't have the rice.
