Do you think the 9/11 hijackers knew that the WTC buildings would collapse?

I really don’t know where else to ask this. There is obviously an overload of information about the event itself online, but one thing I can’t find out is if the hijackers intended to, or knew that the WTC buildings would collapse. Do you think they just planned on the impact and fires to be the extent of the damage caused? As far as I know, no steel structure buildings in history had collapsed from fire at that point, so it makes me wonder if they actually “succeeded” in their plan more than they intended.

Edit: no conspiracies please, that was not the point of my post

As a former New Yorker - not that I really care, but just for giggles' sake: it's actually the FDNY. They don't call themselves the NYFD.

I kind of like that if it’s pronounced “nifty”.

My dad was fdny. The name is fire department of new york. So fdny is the initials. The nypd's name is new york police department. So nypd is the initials.

Yeah for our human brain that seeks patterns, this would make more sense. Plus we think fire dept, police dept, it's all emergency services so they must be similarly named, structured, etc...

But it's more like two universities of the same state. Like how Arizona has Arizona State University and University of Arizona, or ASU and whatever UoA abbreviation is. is more like that! And whatever NAU is.

New York emergency departments are like Arizona colleges, is what I'm saying.

Because that is their name...

NYPD = New York Police Department

FDNY = Fire Dept of New York

It's like why some schools are UX (University of X), while others are XU (X University).

They can go by different names. They are different organizations/institutions, with different structures and leadership. Just because they are for the same city doesn't mean they have to have the same order of their name.

Why is the State Department called that when the others are Department of Defense, etc? (It is technically the Dept of State, but all media refers to it as the State Department)

Defeat of what? FDNY and NYPD are their names. Period. What is up for debate or interpretation? What have I gotten wrong?
